This album is a wreck from a historical point of view. Metallica was formed in 1981 in Los Angeles by James Hetfield and drummer Lars Ulrich after recruiting Dave M Sustain and Ron McGovney for lead guitar and bass. Ron McGovney was later replaced by Cliff Burton before the Kill 'Em All - Burton recording would become a welcome addition to Metallica, touring with the band and recording bass for Ride the Lightning and Master of Puppets before he died in a bus crash in Sweden in 1986 at the age of 24. Metallica's debut vocalist, was eventually dropped from the band in 1983 before recording the album and was replaced by Kirk Hammett, who would continue to be a permanent fixture on the Metallica Damage Inc Band Logo shirt lineup. Mustaine was fired from the band due to excessive drug and alcohol use
