Moving up to the welterweight category after winning the 2016 Olympic gold medal in Rio at middleweight, Lopez continued to show her experience against the young boxer who attended the Olympics for the first time. The 28-year-old Cuban boxer managed to keep his composure throughout the competition, Cuban Bred Black shirt with his skill set. Although Whittaker was quick and resilient, he couldn't turn the tide against an experienced boxer like Lopez. Cuba won 2 out of 3 gold medals in this sport in Tokyo, the other went to Japan. Currently, the Cuban sports delegation has won 5 gold medals at the 2020 Toyko Olympics (including 1 gold medal in wrestling, 1 gold medal in canoeing and 2 gold medals in boxing).
