I love this story of a young, newly single father Halloween Universal Studios Horror Nights 2022 Shirt, Calum (Paul Mescal), taking his 10-year-old daughter, Sophie (Frankie Corio), on an inexpensive holiday in Turkey. Mescal does subtle work as the outwardly genial, inwardly broken dad adrift between youth and responsibility, and newcomer Corio is a brave, expressive girl who desperately needs something from him she’ll never ever get. Aftersun is vibrantly shot and indelibly sad—a lovely sunlit heartbreak of a film. Oscar-winning filmmaker and playwright Martin McDonagh reunites with the actors Colin Farrell and Brendan Gleeson (the stars of his beloved 2008 movie In Bruges) in this darkly hilarious Irish fable. It’s my favorite of McDonagh’s films, set in 1923 on a tiny coastal island, a rough, green landscape edged by sheer cliffs and crashing waves, and both stars are in spectacular comedic form. Pádraic (Farrell) and Colm (Gleeson) are reliable friends at the local pub, but suddenly Colm, an amateur musician determined to make a go of his songwriting, declares the friendship over, leaving Pádraic unmoored.
